Mission: promote ovarian cancer awareness and education; support those diagnosed and survivors; and advocate for public policy and funding.
Join us for a two-part series on May 19th, led by Susan Hedlund, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. The event is sponsored, in part, by AstraZeneca.
Part 1: Communicating Effectively About Ovarian Cancer. 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The morning workshop will focus on how to communicate more effectively to other women about ovarian cancer. This workshop is designed as a training for ovarian cancer survivors who want to volunteer to mentor local women newly diagnosed with ovarian cancer or facing a recurrence. It will be both an introductory course on peer mentoring, and will be a review for those who are already Peer Mentors with the Ovarian Cancer Alliance. This workshop is also open to any survivor who is simply interested in learning better communication skills.
Lunch: 11:30 to 12:30 p.m.
The lunch break will be an opportunity to network with other survivors and participants. Please bring a brown bag lunch or grab take-out at a nearby restaurant. There is no need to register for this; just come if you can.
Part 2: Dealing with Recurrence and the Fear of Recurrence. 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The afternoon workshop will focus on dealing with recurrence and the fear of recurrence.
