Join us for an introduction to the nourishing impact of mindfulness practice. We will explore how and why mindfulness is a powerful tool for navigating life's challenges.
Mindfulness can help relieve stress, lower blood pressure, reduce chronic pain, improve sleep, and alleviate gastrointestinal difficulties.
The evening will include a brief review of the rationale, evidence, and mindfulness practices with the opportunity to experience and share.
There will be a Q&A segment after the presentation.
About the Presenter:
Kimberly Carson, M.P.H., C-I.A.Y.T., E-R.Y.T. is a health educator and yoga therapist at Oregon Health & Science University, specializing in the therapeutic use of mindfulness and yoga for seniors and people with medical challenges. Kimberly has taught Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) for close to 20 years. She currently offers mindfulness classes to cardiac, oncology, chronic pain, and internal medicine patients. Kimberly has developed and taught yoga programs being researched at Duke University Medical Center and OHSU. The Mindful Yoga Program, developed by Kimberly and her husband Jim, has been shown in research trials to significantly reduce pain, fatigue and emotional distress in various patient groups. She co-directs national professional trainings for yoga teacher at OHSU and Duke Integrative Medicine.
With Carol Krucoff, Kimberly co-authored Relax Into Yoga for Seniors. The second book in this series, Relax Into Yoga for Chronic Pain, co-authored by Jim & Kimberly Carson and Carol Krucoff was published January 2020 by New Harbinger. In addition to a wild tapestry of professional roles, Kimberly humbly navigates the waves of parenting twin teenagers, two cats and two dogs while feeding the crows in her neighborhood breakfast every morning.
